Medical Check Up
A standard medical check up for Hong Kong domestic helpers usually comprises of :
- VDRL
- HBsAg
- HIV
- Stool Routine
- Urine Routine
- Urine for Pregnancy
- Chest X-Ray
What to Expect
If you are engaging an agency, they should be able to arrange a medical check up for your helper on your behalf. The cost will occasionally be incorporated in the total agency fee.
If you are processing employment papers without agency assistance, you will need to obtain a doctor's referral before a medical laboratory can run the tests. Medical Practices can provide a comprehensive service but the processing time is usually longer and cost higher.
Results can be processed as quickly as 1-2 days or as long as 10 days.
Medical records for any individual are confidential. Your helper will be asked to sign a release form so the agency and/or the employer can have access to the results.
To get you started, we have provided a list of medical labs and practices that offer check ups for Domestic Helpers. As we are not affiliated with any of these providers we recommend you contact them directly to find out more about their services.
Consider:
- Is it walk in or is a booking required?
- How long will you have to wait to get the results?
- Is the location convenient for your helper?
- Does your helper need to obtain a doctors referral before the test can be carried out?
- What does the examination involve?
- Once the helper signs a consent form, how will you receive the results - email, phone, in person?
- Will you have the option to speak to a doctor to follow up the results?
